I have been fully retired since end 2002; part-time for the previous two years. My whole career was in the central Academic Computer Services unit (variously named over the years, latterly part of Information Services) in the University of Birmingham, where I graduated in Physics in 1967. In recent years I mainly developed Web ASPs and SQL Server databases on Windows 2000, but have used many types of system over the years and had many roles. I now stick to Visual C++ on Windows XP.
During my retirement I have a bit more time to pursue my interests in AI, math and science. (And, of course, the question whose answer is 42.) Much by reading, but also by programming, which has always my main practical interest since graduating. Nevertheless, too little time, as that other interest, family, comes first! (How did I ever find time for work?!) I have some interest in games, such as chess, go and Diplomacy, but more with regard to AI than as an active player.
These are some of my thoughts and beliefs.
