Tournaments for AI in the Game of Diplomacy: Tournament #8

Tournament #8 finished 3 May 2006. As Tournament #7, except:

The originally published analysis was withdrawn when it was realized that the results and conclusions were grossly biased, due to failures (discovered later) of four bots (HoldBot, RandBot, DumbBot and KissMyBot 2), due to changes in DAIDE press syntax (removal of WRT and message_id) with AiServer version 0.27. The tournament was repeated, with bots updated to handle the new form of press, but unfortunately, although BlabBot 1 sent the intended press, it was found to have failed to use any press that it received, so it was effectively equivalent to DumbBot. As the main point of the tournament had been to evaluate the use of simple press – BlabBot being the only bot then capable of any press – no analysis was produced of this attempt.

However, the games of each of the above attempts (now called Tournament 8a and 8b) that do not include BlabBot 1 are meaningful for any future DEMO analysis. To avoid confusion and error, the games that include BlabBot 1 have been deleted from the SAGA database.
